President of Pakistan Muslim League-Q Chaudhry Shuja'at Hussain on Friday urged the nation to forget petty differences and inculcate unity among their rank and file so that the evil designs of the enemy could be foiled.
Talking to journalists after cake-cutting ceremony, arranged by the PML-Q minorities' wing to extend greeting to the Christian community on the eve of upcoming Christmas, he said that the country was passing through a difficult phase of its history, therefore, every Pakistani should come forward for playing his role in the nation-building.
Advocating for giving separate representation to minorities in the Senate, he said that the minorities should be provided representation in the upper house of the parliament as they were also citizens of the country. He appreciated the role of the Pakistan Armed forces, and said that the entire nation was supporting the armed forces in their battle against the militants.
He said that minorities in Pakistan were enjoying equal rights, while in all other regions of the world, particularly in India, they continued to face serious threats, discrimination and racism, and were frequently ignored from taking part in economic, political, social and cultural life of the majority. Shuja'at said that during their regime, minorities were fully protected, saying that not a single case of violence against minorities surfaced.
He said that when his party was in rule, they returned all the missionary educational institutions to them, besides this they made certain legislation in connection with minorities rights.
Speaking on the occasion, PML-Q minorities' wing leader MNA Akram Messiah Gill said that in Pakistan only a few cases of violence against minorities had been surfaced since its creation, but in the neighbouring country dozens of such cases were reported every year. Senator Nilofar Bukhtair and MNA Marvi Memon were also present on the occasion.
