A spokesman of the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, King Edward Medical University (KEMU), on Saturday refuted the allegations of desecration of bodies of martyrs of Moon Market bomb blast. He said the department received 52 bodies/body parts of the Moon Market blast victims, out of which 40 were identified and handed over to the relatives through police.
He said: "One identified dead body is still lying in the cold storage of the department because the relatives have to come from Karachi to receive it." According to him, the bodies/body parts were fully draped in white "Chaddars" before handing over to their relatives. KEMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Muhammad Zafarullah Khan was himself present in the department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology on the night of the incident.
He said out of the remaining 11 unidentified bodies/body parts, the autopsy was conducted on three, which were handed over to the police. He also said three bodies, being partially burnt and not decomposed, were lying in the autopsy lab of the department. "The staff of concerned police station was placed in the department and the doctors of the department and ancillary staff remained working round-the-clock for the facilitation of the public. "It is not possible that the staff of the department had stolen ornaments from the bodies. The administration of the department is with the bereaved families to share their sorrow and pains," he added.
