The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has decided to hold no public meeting at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh this year to mark the martyr of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto on December 27, said party sources. The party sources said the decision has been taken on account of bad law and order situation on the one hand and fall of 9th of Moharram on the other.
It may be noted that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was killed in a terrorist attack on December 27, 2007 in a deadly terrorist attack at Liaquat Bagh Rawalpindi. The party had marked her first death anniversary last year with full preparations and party Co-chairperson had delivered a speech there.
However, no such arrangements are on cards this year, said the sources and added that the central party leadership has instructed to hold public meetings at the regional level. They said the party would organise special meetings at the district level where the party workers would make recitation from the Holy Quran.
There is no caravan from Punjab would be travelling to Garhi Khuda Bakhsh like the last year, added the sources. It may be noted that the PPP has also cancelled a public meeting at the Mochi Gate Lahore, due to be held on December 13, after terrorist attack in the city. Party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari was due to deliver telephonic address on the occasion.
Earlier, he had delivered similar telephonic address in Karachi on the Sindhi Cap Day. It is also worth noting that the party Central Executive Committee (CEC) has already passed a resolution suggesting President Asif Ali to restrict his movement in the wake of terrorist activities in the country. President Zardari, therefore, is not touring the country to interact with the party workers.
