Jamshoro Joint Venture Limited (JJVL), Pakistan's single largest producer of LPG, is a stakeholder in the development of District Hyderabad, Sindh, where its LPG Extraction Plant is situated. Since the commissioning of its Plant in early 2005, JJVL has keenly contributed to the socioeconomic development of the local community comprising some 150 villages and representing a population of 150,000.
JJVL is committed to the sustainable development and welfare of the local community. Among its other efforts, JJVL sponsors the annual, free eye camp set up by the Lion's Trust in Deh Shah Bukhari. It has donated and installed two water filtration plants in Qasimabad to provide clean, drinking water for some 100,000 residents. It has donated funds for the upcoming SOS Villages Jamshoro. And JJVL regularly distributes free food and flour in neighbouring villages.
"We are working to build on our successes and remain alive to the socioeconomic concerns and difficulties of the poorest quarters of the area," said JJVL General Manager Ashfaque Laghari. "We have also been engaged with the community to raise awareness about the environmental benefits of our work and product, and we have successful internship and outreach programmes that, along with our support to local educational institutes, signal our intent and ambition to contribute towards the development of local human capital," he said.
"JJVL is working on some exciting new development projects for the area and we remain grateful to the local administration for their sensitivity to the aspirations and desires of the community," he said. In addition to continuing support to select welfare organisations, NGOs and causes, JJVL has contributed funds, product and manpower to relief efforts following the October 2005 earthquake.
JJVL has also contributed funds for the welfare and treatment of those injured and maimed in October 19, 2007 suicide bomb attacks in Karachi. "Our Corporate Social Responsibility charter is an articulation of the vision and principles of our parent company's founding father, Mr Z. Z. Ahmed", said JJVL Director Fasih Ahmed.
"Last year we set up the Zohra and Z. Z. Ahmed Foundation to further professionalize our philanthropic efforts," he said, "This independent organisation will be ably aided by the inputs and experiences of the social workers who constitute the board" he said. JJVL's state-of-the-art facility is one of the most efficient of its kind in the world.
Its patented processing technology allows it to recover a guaranteed minimum of 98% propane from the natural gas condensate stream. Comparable plants in Pakistan average a recovery rate of about 65% JJVL's corporate excellence has been recognised by its international peers.
It was a finalist in the categories of "Energy Pioneer" and "Downstream Business of the Year" at the 2006 Platts Global Energy Awards in New York. JJVL was also a finalist in the category of "Rising Star of the Year" at the 2007 Platts Global Energy Awards.
