The board of directors of Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco) has approved Rs 1,053 million for system improvement under the ADB Tranche-1 programme for the purchase of different types of electrical equipment. The board also allowed Rs 1,361 million more for the purchase of distribution transformers and electricity meters to improve the distribution system of the Pesco.
The decision was taken in the 49th board meeting held under the chairmanship of Wing Commander Jamshed Savul (Retd) at Wapda House here. The meeting was attended by Pesco Chief Mohammad Qasim Khan, board members Iqtidar Hussain and Dr Maqbool Khan, General Manager of Technical Nawaz Ali Khan, Chief Engineer (T&G) Shahid Mehmood Khan, Chief Engineer, Development, Abdul Latif Khan; Director General, Human Resources, Syed Chand Badshah Bukhari; and Finance Director and board Secretary Anwar-ul-Haq Yousafzai.
Yousafzai presented a comprehensive report about the minutes of 48th board meeting, which after a detailed discussion, was approved. The board approved an amount of Rs 1,053 million for the purchase of material under ADB Tranche-1 programme for the system improvement.
The Pesco will spend Rs 104 Million for the purchase of switch-gears panel and bus couplers; Rs 207 million for the purchase of distribution transformers; Rs 531 million for the purchase of power transformers; Rs 211 Million for the purchase of conductors and cables. The board further approved the purchase of different transformers and meters worth Rs 1,361 Million for the Pesco, which will spend Rs 1,361 million for the purchase of 25 KVA, 50 KVA, 100 KVA, 200 KVA transformers and 30,000 electricity meters.
The board directed the Pesco to issue purchase orders to the firms, having the lowest bids and tenders must be published in renowned and widely published newspapers so that the national and international bidders may be able to participate and with the completion of these projects, more development and improvement in the Pesco supply system will be achieved.
The board also approved long-term loans to the Pesco employees on seniority basis for the 2009-10 financial year and allowed grant of special allowance to officers of finance, accounts, casting and audit cadres as already approved by the Pesco.
Pesco Chief Executive Mohammad Qasim Khan briefed board regarding recoveries, line losses and developmental schemes. He said that the recovery of company had increased while efforts were being made to reduce line losses also and further directed to provide better services to customers at their doorsteps.
The board of directors hailed the overall performance of the Pesco under the leadership of Muhammad Qasim Khan as Chief Executive Officer, and expressed the hope that he would continue to work with the same spirit and zeal for company's welfare and also to solve the consumer's complaints. The board also approved a number of other administrative and technical matters.
