The week-long activities celebrating the human rights day concluded here Thursday at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA). The events of the week included 3 popular plays by Ajoka Theater, puppet show, lectures and a drama show on 'Aur Sooraj Qaid Say Choot Gia'. The puppet show depicted folk tales and skits to provide entertainment and education about social problems including health, education and environment.
The plays presented a retrospective of Ajoka's stage shows on peace, tolerance and communal harmony, featuring the popular productions like 'Dekh Tamasha Chalta Ban', 'Bulha' and 'Raja Rasalu'. The purpose of holding these activities was to create awareness through entertainment among the masses regarding the importance of human rights day in the society and providing the people with the understanding of human rights, said Director General PNCA Tauqeer Nasir.
The plays have generated world-wide interest and have one thing in common, they are thoroughly entertaining and at the same time have a powerful message. They are bold in their theme and innovative in their form. During his lecture on "Human rights and role of cultural institutions", Tauqeer Nasir said, "Pakistani culture is one of the oldest in the world and its people have always shown resilience to new ideas while guarding their cultural values."
He said that being conscious of our own cultural heritage, and to meet the demands of the rapidly changing world, it is indeed imperative to highlight the contours of our culture, to emphasise its paradigms and to understand its elasticity. Ajoka is a voluntary organisation based in Pakistan, working in the field of theatre and electronic media, providing high quality entertainment with a social purpose.
