Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture, Nazar Muhammad Gondal here on Thursday highlighted the importance of research for the development of agriculture sector, saying it was imperative for the country's prosperity. "Pakistan's is having agro-based economy and it would not make progress unless special focus is given to agriculture sector", Gondal remarked while as addressing at the oath-taking ceremony of officer-bearers of Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) union.
He said that the government was giving priority to the agriculture sector to ensure sustainable economic development and stressed upon the scientists to take advantage of this opportunity and utilise this particular time for the promotion of this sector.
He expressed the hope that employees of the organisation would work hard for promotion of agriculture sector saying that people, specially farmers have been pinning hope on PARC for promoting agriculture sector. He said that Pakistan was having tremendous potential to excel in agriculture sector and become a role model.
The federal minister deplore that due to subversive efforts against democracy, Pakistan was lagging behind all those nations who even achieved freedom after it. The federal minister on the occasion announced regularisation of all those who have been serving in the organisation since last ten years. He also asked the PARC Chairman, Zafar Altaf to ensure provision of rights to the employees in accordance with the rules and regulation, besides announcing payment of Hardship Allowance.
He said that establishment of housing colony for employees of PARC would also be considered besides announcing that all the deserving employees of the council would be given scholarships as demanded by the union. Speaking on the occasion, Chairman PARC, Zafar Altaf, stressed upon the employees to work for the progress of this research organisation. He said that people have expectations from PARC for the development of agriculture.
In his address, Director General National Agriculture Research Center, Dr Iftikhar Ahmad said that the center was striving hard for developing agriculture sector and lauded service of scientist for this purpose. Dr Fazul Chaudhry MNA PML-N on the occasion termed the agriculture as backbone of country's economy and highlighted the importance of equipping PARC with modern technology and research facilities for speedy development of agriculture. Earlier, President of the employees union, Muhammad Jahangir highlighted various issues and problems faced by the employees and urged upon the federal minister to resolve the workers' issues on priority basis.
