Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Kaleem Imam has directed the police officials to bring an improvement in their duties at the police pickets, not get involved in the malpractice and become more courteous with the citizens. In his address to the police officers and cops deputed at the police pickets here on Thursday at National Library.
The IGP said there has been 100 percent raise in the salaries of the policemen and now the expectations of the public are very high regarding their performance. All SSPs of Islamabad, SPs, SDPOs, SHOs and policemen performing their duties at police pickets attended the briefing.
The IGP directed them to inculcate friendly police ecology in the Capital through their polite attitude and by saying 'No to corruption'. "If there is any complaint from any citizen about any cop to take bribe, he would not be spared," the IGP warned.
He said that as many as 12 police personnel of Capital police deputed at various pickets had been shown the door for their involvement in corruption. The IGP Islamabad said the campaign against corrupt elements had been aggressively launched after substantial increase in the emoluments of police personnel and they were expected to keep away from corrupt practices.
He renewed the commitment to root out the menace of corruption and make Islamabad police corruption free force. Syed Kaleem Imam said that no one within the department would be allowed to indulge in any kind of embezzlement and only those following the policy of zero tolerance would survive.
He said a policy of zero tolerance of corruption would be pursued as this menace seriously undermines the country. The IGP directed the policemen deputed at police pickets to also check the vehicles of law enforcement agencies including Frontier Constabulary, Rangers and others due to the current law and order situation.
He also committed to give reflecting jackets to Islamabad police personnel and initiate various welfare schemes for the police department. "Health insurance scheme has been initiated, motorcycles are being provided on instalments to cops while talks are being made to launch a housing scheme for policemen," he added.
Regarding security arrangements on Muharram, he said every possible effort is being made for foolproof security arrangements and sophisticated weapons would be provided to police commandos to guard the processions. Every vehicle would be monitored in the vicinity of processions and no laxity would be tolerated on the part of police officials, the IGP added. SSP (Operations) Tahir Alam Khan also spoke on the occasion and directed the SDPOs and SHOs to check duties of policemen and ensure effective patrolling in their jurisdictions.
