Japan has decided to extend financial support of $95,235 to the Al-Khidmat Foundation Pakistan (AKFP), a non-governmental organisation, under the "Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects" for the Provision of safe drinking water project in Punjab.
The agreement was signed between Japan's ambassador to Pakistan Chihiro Atsumi and Niamatullah Khan President of the AKFP, here on Thursday at the Japanese Ambassador's residence. The grant will be utilised for the installation of seven filtration plants to provide clean and hygienic water to seven localities in five different cities in Punjab including Lahore, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Sargodha and Multan. As water isn't suitable for drinking consequently, residents in of the areas have high risk of having health problems by drinking that contaminated water. Filtration plants will be installed in schools and hospitals. This project would improve the health and sanitary conditions of about 143,000 residents in the respective project areas.
At the signing ceremony, The Japanese Ambassador H.E Chihiro Atsumi said that the provision of safe drinking water is of great importance for Japan, adding this project would help to improve the living and sanitary conditions of the people. He hoped that this project would further contribute to strengthen the existing friendly relations between the people of Pakistan and that of Japan.-PR
