The Provincial Council of PPP Peshawar on Monday passed a unanimous resolution reposing full confidence in the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari with a pledge to foil all conspiracies against the democratically elected government through the force and support of masses.
Pakistan People's Party respects the decision of the Supreme Court and would face all cases according to the law as it is the only party that represent all the four federating units and is the symbol of federation. These observations were made here after the meeting of the Provincial Council of the PPP under the chair of President Syed Zahir Ali Shah.
Federal Minister for SAFRON, Najmuddin Khan, MNA Syed Akhunzada Chattan and all other office-bearers of the provincial council were also present on the occasion. Briefing media persons, PPP NWFP President, Syed Zahir Ali Shah said that the anti-democratic forces have started conspiracies against the PPP government with a view to derail the biggest political force of the country for their vested interests and resolved that the workers of the party would thwart all such attempts directed towards this end.
The PPP government has taken a number of bold decisions during its 21 months tenure for the sovereignty and solidarity of the country which was not the agenda of the past governments, he told. Referring to the biggest achievements of the PPP government, he said that the PPP government waged open war against terrorists who were out to destabilise the country, resolved the long-standing issue of net-hydel profit, FCR, introduced Balochistan Package, awarded autonomy to Gilgit-Baltistan, NFC award and would soon pass the constitutional amendment package.
Moreover, Zahir Shah continued that for the first time the PPP government initiated Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and Waseela-e-Haq programmes, a biggest project in the social safety net that was meant to empower the poor female and provide financial assistance to them.
It was these bold steps taken by the present government that has irritated the anti-democratic forces of the country and once again conspiracies are being hatched against the PPP government, he told media. Zahir said that it was the biggest tragedy that PPP was always elected into power by the people and were always removed by anti-democratic elements.
However, he reiterated that the PPP would not bow before these forces and complete its tenure as it was answerable to the people of the country and not to any other force. "Power was not handed over to PPP in a charity as it was the support of the people that placed it into power corridor thus leaving no room for vested forces seeking resignations from the elected Ministers and President," he argued.
There was no need for forming 17-member bench of the Supreme Court on NRO as the issue was already declared dead by the PPP government, he maintained, adding that the NRO decision was taken to pave way for bringing back the political leadership of the country and the present judicial system was revived due to that ordinance.
He reiterated that the PPP has a long history of sacrifices and would also emerge triumphant in the current crises with the support of the people. Zahir Shah ruled out the demand for resignations and vowed to resist any force that wants to put the sovereignty of the country at stake.
