Reconstruction of 58km quake-hit road: Australian HC visits site to inspect progress
Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Tim George has inspected progress of the re-construction of 58-kilometer road from Muzaffarabad to the Line of Control (LoC), just beyond the town of Chakothi. When completed in September 2010, the high-quality and widened asphalt road, which follows the Jhelum River Valley, will include 4 new bridges, 96 culverts, and 10,000 metres of retaining walls.
The work is part of the World Bank-assisted project under the National Highway Authority for the re rehabilitation and re-construction of earthquake damaged roads. George said it was pleasing to see the important contribution being made to this and other projects by SMEC, an Australian company which is one of the world's leading engineering and development consultancies and has been operating in Pakistan for several decades. The company has a strong presence all over the country, working with different industry sectors.-PR
