The network of all the non-governmental organisations dealing with special persons would help avoid overlapping of services being extended to the handicapped people. The Lahore Businessmen Association for Rehabilitation of Disabled (LABARD) President Muhammad Pervez Malik sated this while addressing a conclave organised by LABARD here on Monday.
A large number of representatives of different NGOs participated in the conclave while LCCI Senior Vice President Ejaz A Mumtaz, LABARD Senior Vice President Mian Nusratuddin, Secretary General Bushra Aitzaz Ahsan, Joint Secretary Madiha Aijaz, Finance Secretary Muhammad Saeed, Laila Nusratuddin, Shaisrvez Malik and governing body members were also present on the occasion.
He said that there are NGOs working in the different fields and they have their own expertise and by sharing their expertise in their respective field they can do a lot for the disabled persons. He said that frequent interaction among the NGOs also need of the hour so that they could be able to exchange latest researches and ideas for the better rehabilitation of the under privileged class of the society.
He also urged the employers to ensure a certain percentage of employment to the special persons so that they could be a part of mainstream of the society. He said that the government should on emergent basis solve the issue of transportation being faced by the special persons and it would be wiser on its part if it could issue them free transportation cards/passes.
The LCCI Senior Vice President Ejaz A Mumtaz paid rich tributes to LABARD office-bearers for spending their time and energies for this noble cause. He said that LABARD is a feather in LCCI cap and the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry would leave no stone unturned in ensuring proper assistance to the LABARD. He said that all the businessmen should at least accommodate one disabled person in his factory or office to curtail the miseries of the society.
The LABARD Senior Vice President Mian Nusratuddin, Secretary General Bushra Aitzaz Ahsan, Joint Secretary Madiha Aijaz and Finance Secretary Muhammad Saeed Khan said that LABARD has so far provided counselling to 19111 disabled, jobs to 2112, training and education to 1902, medical assistance to 1423, cornea transplant to 341, medical treatment to 3178 and Qarz-e-Hasna to 1902 disabled people.
They said that a state-of-the-art-training center of LABARD is imparting training in various faculties. They said that rehabilitation of disabled persons is a sacred job and everybody should come forward to play his role. They said that the LABARD was getting a very good response from the registration camps it was holding at Union council level.
They said that in the developed world, the disabled persons are always given a special treatment, they are provided with every possible facility so that they could use their abilities for the well-being of society and now the situation in Pakistan was also taking a positive turn and a large number of disabled persons are running their own businesses with the help of LABARD.
