Jamhoori Watan Party Secretary General Rauf Khan Sasoli has said, "we have set conditions for their talks with the Government on a guarantee that there would be no drone attack inside Balochistan territories not even in the adjacent tribal areas."
Imminent threats of American drone attacks inside Balochistan and adjacent tribal belt may jeopardise the government's endeavours to appease the estranged Baloch through the recently announced empowerment package for the most backward province.
Talking to newsmen here on Monday along with other office-bearers he observed that the threat perception of drone attacks in Balochistan was not totally unfounded. That is why we have sought guarantee from the government if it sincerely wants to hold peace talks with us.
He said that even the government at the highest level was in a fix that the Balochistan empowerment package may be jeopardised if the US drones attack some areas inside the province. Sasoli said that we are aware of that the government at the same time is not at all in a position to guarantee against the drone attacks, and it was incapacitated to convince the US against drone attacks inside Balochistan.
"Therefore, we believe it was useless to hold talks with the government that was unable to ensure sovereign sanctity of its territories," he added. Despite the government's inclination to award a general amnesty for Bloch leaders besides American assurances in so many words that drones would not attack Balochistan, the Bloch leader fears drone attacks as imminent in near future.
Only recently the US Defence Secretary Robert Gates has, reportedly disagreed with suggestions of using CIA-operated unmanned drone aircraft to attack the so-called Quetta Shura. But the threat perception of drone attacks remains there since no one either from Pakistan or from the US, has so far, categorically ruled out Predator's attacks on Balochistan.
