Philippines share prices closed 0.12 percent higher Monday on a quiet trading day with little market-moving news ahead of the Christmas break. The composite index added 3.57 points to close at 3,020.56 while the all-shares index edged up 0.04 percent to 1,891.53. Turnover amounted to 901.1 million shares worth 2.775 billion pesos (59.42 million dollars).
There were 42 gainers against 64 losers and 50 that were unchanged. "With only three days of trading this week, investors opted to stay on the sidelines, as the lack of market moving developments led to weak volumes during respective sessions," the Bank of the Philippine Islands said in an advisory to clients.
Manila Water Co gained 1.64 percent to 15.50 pesos while Century Peak Metal Holdings dropped 2.89 percent to 6.70 pesos. SM Investments Corp rose 0.8 percent to 315 pesos while Energy Development Corp was unchanged at 4.55 pesos.
