Kenya produced 4 percent more tea in the month of November compared to the same month last year, the Tea Board of Kenya said on Wednesday. Total output was 35.8 million kilogram (kg), 9 percent higher than in October, the board said in a statement.
"Higher production was due to favourable weather conditions experienced in tea growing areas following the onset of the short rains season," the board said. Some 21.0 million kgs of Kenyan tea were sold through the weekly auction in Mombasa, slightly lower than the 20.9 million kgs sold during the same month in 2008. The average price was however higher at $3.10 per kg, compared with $1.88 last year.
