Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) has decided to pursue the PPP-led coalition government for the implementation of the apex court verdict on controversial National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) in letter and spirit. Sources in the PML-N told Business Recorder here on Friday that the party would also mobilise the public on the issue in order to exert pressure on the government for speedy implementation of the Supreme Court's verdict.
Also, Nawaz Sharif has convened the consultative and party's Central Organising Committee meetings in Islamabad on December 31 to discuss post-NRO scenario besides party's re-organisation and bye-polls matters. With Nawaz Sharif as Chairman, the Central Organising Committee of the PML-N is comprised of, among others, Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Ishaq Dar, Sartaj Aziz, Saranjam Khan, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Syed Ghous Ali Shah, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Ms Tehmina Doultana, Syed Zafar Ali Shah, Ahsan Iqbal, M Hamza, Raja Muhammad Afzal, Chaudhry Jafer Iqbal, Ms Ishrat Ashraf, Pervaiz Rashid, Kh Saad Rafique and Saleem Zia.
According to sources, Nawaz had also taken notice of recent statements of activists of the PML-N and the PPP. Nawaz has expressed his displeasure over the situation and asked for showing responsible attitude in view of the challenges confronted to the country. The PML-N is very much clear on the subject of NRO and it would not let the plunderers go escort free, said the party sources.
The PML-N would go to every extend for the implementation of judgement of the apex court on NRO, as it is a must for securing future of coming generation, a senior PML-N leader Pervaiz Malik told this scribe. In a meeting with Federal Minister for Railways Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour at his Raiwind residence on Friday, the PML-N Quaid said.
"With the implementation of Supreme Court verdict, country's prestige would enhance in the comity of nations besides strengthening the democracy and discouraging corruption." Nawaz also expressed the hope that Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani would ensure implementation of historic Supreme Court verdict on NRO.
Nawaz has also convened meetings of the Provincial Organising Committees of the PML-N to take stock of country's present situation and evolve party's future strategy. In these meetings, strategy for party elections and its future activities would also be evolved, a party leader said.
'The PML-N has decided to concentrate on re-organisation of the party and organise it at grassroots level. In this regard, the party leadership has asked the legislators and activists of the PML-N to apprise the masses about stance of the PML-N in present scenario,' he added. "We are playing the role of responsible opposition in true sense instead of friendly opposition. The country had already suffered a lot due to politics of confrontation persuaded by political parties in the past, he added.
