Aditi Rao Hydari talks about being molested
Bollywood actress Aditi Rao Hydari who recently appeared in an Indian action thriller ‘Bhoomi’, speaks up about being molested at a tender age of 15 and how she dealt with it.
In an interview, the actress revealed, “I was 15 and we were in Kerala to visit a temple where wearing a saree was compulsory. We all wore sarees and were waiting in the temple queue. That's when I felt somebody’s hand on my stomach, and it happened three-four times. I turned back and held his hand and slapped him so hard, leaving the guy scared. He started saying ‘what, what?’ but I gave him an earful that he will remember for the rest of his life,” India Times reported.
Earlier, many other celebrities including Sonam Kapoor and Kalki Koechlin made headlines for the similar reason.
The 30-year-old actor who features in the titular role of ‘Bhoomi’ says these movies are a reflection of what is happening in the society. The actor says, “So many cases of violence against women continue to take place, why aren't we asking this question to the system? There are certain things that are constantly seen in our society — be it honour killings, rape or any kind of sexual assault or whether it's people being silenced for having a voice of dissent. It's either simple love stories or humorous ones. Isn't that repetitive? It has been done so many times. Every kind of violence is different, every parent-child relationship is different. I'm sure Sridevi’s ‘Mom’ was different. But these stories were not able to reach out to the audiences. I really hope Bhoomi does”.
‘Bhoomi’ also marked a comeback movie for Sanjay Dutt.
