Federal Law Minister Babar Awan said that former president Pervez Musharraf had imposed ban on third time election as Prime Minister only to stop Benazir Bhutto and Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif from becoming Premier again, adding that the government would remove all such constitutional amendments made by him.
While addressing the Punjab Bar Council Awan said Benazir Bhutto was no more in the world but they would happy to see Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in the parliament. He said that the government was trying to strengthen the democratic institutions and ready to remove 17th amendment.
He said that they were only waiting for the proposals of the parliamentary committee and if committee recommended to remove presidential authority to dissolve the parliament they would get it passed within eight to ten hours. He said some hidden forces were trying to weaken or derail the democracy in the county but we would remove all such obstacle in the way of the democracy.
He said such elements were not only weakening the democratic institutions but also a big hurdle in the way of the development and prosperity of the country. He said that PPP government would continue to fight against such elements and would not allow them to succeed in their nefarious designs. He said lawyers always supported the democratic forces in the county and hoped that they would not leave the PPP government alone fighting with the undemocratic elements hatching conspiracies against democracy and democratic institutions in the country.
