Singaporean firm Indosino has won a Bangladesh tender to supply 30,000 tonnes of wheat at $241.95 per tonne, a food ministry official said on Friday. Of the total, 18,000 tonnes would be supplied through Chittagong port and 12,000 tonnes through Mongla port, the official said. Bangladesh, which plans to buy 750,000 tonnes of wheat in the year to June 2010 to boost stocks, has recently issued a series of international tenders.
Traders say Bangladesh, which imports around 2 million tonnes of wheat annually, is buying more wheat this year because of lower global prices while domestic production is likely to stagnate at around 1 million tonnes. Bangladesh mainly buys Black Sea wheat and smaller quantities of high-quality Australian and Canadian cargoes for blending.
