Due to low pressure of natural gas in 75 percent localities of Multan city, people are forced to purchase liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to prepare breakfast, so that their children could go to school, or college, and head of family could go on duty. Taking advantage of the rising demand of LPG the dealers have increased the prices of LPG cylinders.
The dealers are selling LPG at Rs 100 to Rs 110 per kg against the original rate of Rs 90 per kg. On the other hand, the LPG dealers are also selling empty gas cylinder of 14 kg and 11.2 kg at Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,200 respectively. Nasir Abbas Zaidi of Amirabad said that he was using LPG in his house as the Sui gas pressure in his area was very low and they could not even make tea on it.
He said that the LPG dealers are taking advantage of this situation and selling the LPG on higher rates. "If the government couldn't provide gas to us then it should at least take some steps to control the rates of LPG," he added. Javed Shad of Samijabad said that the concerned authorities should control the prices of LPG as the dealers are selling the gas in black.
He said that pressure of Sui gas always remains low in their area and they have submitted several complaints with the authorities but in vain. Zulfikar, a cab driver, said that all CNG stations were closed in the twin cities and he could not afford to use petrol in his vehicle.
That was why he was using liquefied petroleum gas in his taxi cab, but now the LPG dealers are also selling it in black and charging high rates. An LPG dealer said that they were also facing shortage of LPG because of its high demand and they were also getting it on high rates. He also admitted the fact that some dealers were selling LPG in black and charging high rates from consumers.
