Secretary General, PML(Q) Mushahid Hussain Sayed called for holding an open inquiry on Saturday under the supervision of Supreme Court into a terrorist attack in Karachi on Ashura Day. He said this during a visit to MQM headquarters at Azizabad along with a PML(Q) delegation. The PML-Q leader was talking to media after meeting with MQM Rabita Committee members.
Mushahid Hussain said "we fully share the grief of people of Karachi. The delegation was welcomed by MQM Rabita Committee Members including Dr Farooq Sattar and Babar Ghauri at the MQM headquarters. It also held telephonic talk with MQM Chief Altaf Hussain. Mushahid Hussain strongly condemned the blast in the main mourning procession on Muharram 10 last year Lighthouse at M A Jinnah Road.
Mushahid agreed with the proposal of Altaf Hussain that leaders from Punjab should visit Karachi at the earliest to express solidarity with the Karachiites. During his telephonic talk with MQM Chief Altaf Hussain in London, Mushahid lauded the role of the MQM in restoration of peace in the metropolis.
He endorsed the suggestion by the MQM Chief that there should be a concrete strategic policy to counter terrorism. Mushahid said his basic objective of visiting Karachi was to express complete solidarity with the people of the city as they have been badly affected by this tragedy. He said all the affectees of Karachi blast including fire- hit shopkeepers should be provided compensation.
Mushahid said the footage provided by the City District Government Karachi about the incident of blast on Ashura-e-Muharram and arson of Boulton Market shops should be taken into consideration and the killers be exposed and awarded stern punishment. He said though Ashura- e- Muharram tragedy was an act of terrorism and it was done to divide Karachi and it was not an act of sectarianism.
The PML-Q leader lauded the role of MQM in controlling the situation after such a big tragedy and said the role of Altaf Hussain is highly appreciable. The MQM acted as a fire brigade to pacify the situation, he added. He also called upon the government to call an all- party conference to evolve a policy to counter terrorism and for this all the parties will extend full co-operation. Mushahid termed the Karachi blast a conspiracy to destabilise Karachi.
Earlier, MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar told media, Mushahid Hussain along with his delegation came here to express solidarity with the Karachiites and pay tribute to workers and leaders of MQM for playing a vital role in restoring peace. He said there are long term relations between PML(Q) and MQM and it was not secret from anyone as he had visited MQM headquarters Nine-Zero several times.
