National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) encourages the skills of internally displaced people of Swat, Malakand, and Mansehra, said Nafisa Shah, Chairperson NCHD while addressing a group of women parliamentarians at Lok Virsa, where a festival has been arranged by NCHD in collaboration with National Institute for Cultural Studies (NICS).
The three-day (January 1-3) festival features the works of displaced artisans from Swat providing them a hope for their better future. The event titled "Umeed-e-Nou" is arranged to pay tribute to the Daughter of the East, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
Nafisa Shah highlighted NCHD's efforts for the relief of IDPs, adding that more than 800 mobile medical camps were organised by NCHD and provided treatment and medicines to more than 63000 IDPs living in Mardan. She also said that NCHD also provided the facility of transitional schools in which more than 1300 displaced children got enrolled. Women parliamentarians in the leadership of speaker National Assembly Fehmida Mirza attended the festival.
Fehmida highlighted the importance of cottage industry and artisans for the economic development of a country. She appreciated NCHD's efforts for the relief of IDPs. The Speaker also highlighted the role of women parliamentarians for the rehabilitation of IDPs and said that despite of many dangers they visited Mardan, Sawabi and Nowshehra to provide relief goods including medicines, food, clothes, and other items of daily use.-PR
