Chairman Pakistan Kiryana Merchants Association (PKMA) Nadeem-ur-Rehman has urged the government to increase the pledged Rs 3 billion funds further by Rs 5 billion to compensate the affected traders for losses of over 30 billion and for the rehabilitation of the fire-destroyed old city markets.
According to a press statement, the demand came through a resolution during the PKMA's executive committee's emergency meeting held on December 31 last year to review the situation of the fire-destroyed markets. He also dubbed the Rs 1 billion fund pledged by the Prime Minister "insufficient", saying that losses are greater.
He said the burning of markets was the murder of the trade and economy of the country. It was further demanded that the government at once start negotiation with the concerned available associations of the affected markets and initiate rehabilitation of the business community.-PR
