Minister for Youth Affairs Shahid Hussain Bhutto has said the ministry would construct women hostels across the country to facilitate working and rural women. He said with progressive change in the economic structure of the country and more women living out of their homes in search of employment in big cities and urban and rural townships. He said the main difficulties faced by such women is lack of suitable and safe accommodation.
The Federal Minister said the government has decided to introduce a scheme for construction of new and expansion of existing buildings for providing hostel facilities to working women in the cities. He said the objective of the construction of new hostels is to provide accommodation for single working women, unmarried, widows, divorced or separated women.
"We can provide accommodation to girl students, but first preference will be given to working women only," Shahid Hussain Bhutto added. The minister said initially new women hostels would be constructed in Muzaffarabad (Azad Kashmir), Karachi, Lahore and other cities. The construction and renovation work in this regard would start soon, he added.
