AJK Minister for Mangla Dam affairs, wild life and fisheries Chaudhry Muhammad Yousaf has said that the inauguration of under construction Mangla dam raising project will be exercised only after completion of entire project.
Talking to various delegations of Mangla dam affectees who called on him at the PWD Rest House here Saturday he assured that there would be no any injustice to the Mangla dam affectees and the allotment of plots to the affectees of the raising project will be exercised in line with the determined merit.
Expressing dismay over the reported delay in completion of the project, the minister said that Mangla dam raising project was required to be completed by June 2007 as announced by Wapda. The minister directed the Mangla Dam Resettlement Organisation to ensure hundred percent implementation of the agreement reached between Wapda and AJK government vis-a-vis dispensation of compensation to the raising project-affected population with special focus for the timely rehabilitation of the displaced families.
Chaudhry Yousaf declared that Rs 54 billion are being disbursed as compensation among the affectees of Mangla dam raising project against their affected residential houses and other buildings and lands. He revealed that payment of the compensatory amount against the affected buildings to the affected owners has yet been started.
Senior Officials of Mangla dam resettlement organisation apprised the minister on this occasion of the pace of work for rehabilitation and resettlement of the displaced families besides the construction work of Dhan Gali Bridge at Dadayal-Rawalapindi Raod over Poonch river in wake of raising of the dam. They said that contract for the construction of Dhan Gali Bridge has been granted to a foreign company which has given 18-month time period for construction of the bridge.
The officials also apprised the minister of the pace of construction work in New Mirpur city and four small towns in this district for housing the affected population, Mirpur-Islamgarh Bridge, Mirpur ring road and Kharak - Panayam dikes. Chaudhry Yousaf said that out of allocated Rs 54 billion, the sum of Rs 40 billion have so far been disbursed as compensation against the affected private lands among their owners.
He said allotment of about 5000 plots to the displaced families in new Mirpur garden city will start soon at the first leg of the rehabilitation plan. Yousaf said that the timely rehabilitation of the new and old affectees of Mangla dam was the foremost priority of the government. He said that reservations and apprehensions of the Mangla dam affectees, if any, will be removed in all circumstances.
