The World Bank is organising a two-day Consultation workshop on Bank's group environment strategy and Institutional analysis of Air Quality Management in Urban Pakistan" here at a local hotel from January 12.
The bank sources said that the workshop is being organised in collaboration with the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (PEPA) to highlight the environment related issues in urban Pakistan and suggest remedies to overcome the problems. The workshop will be inaugurated by the Minister for Environment Hameed ullah Jan Afridi.
They said that other objectives of the first workshop is to undertake consultations with the stakeholders and to identify a set of priorities for achieving environmental sustainability.
The first day topic of the consultative workshop will be on World Banks group environment strategy while the second day topic will be on "Institutional analysis of air Quality Management in Urban Pakistan". "These consultations will also help in building consensus on and ensure quality of new World Bank Group Environment Strategy", they remarked.
The objective of the second day workshop is to share with the key stakeholders, the findings of the study "Institutional analysis of Air quality management in Urban Pakistan" commissioned by the Pak-EPA in collaboration with the WB, and to obtain their views and comments on the draft study report, they added.
The Bank sources said that on each day there would be a number of presentations from sector experts followed by group discussions where the focus will be to formulate recommendations. They said that as a central mandate, the World Bank Group (WBG) has an enduring commitment to ensure that its support to client countries leads to sustainable outcomes, that is, development results that are economically, socially and environmentally sustainable.
The WBG, they said is embarking on the preparation of a new Environmental Strategy which will articulate a set of principles and purpose and an approach for achieving the environmental suitability of the WBG's portfolio.
