Director, United Nations Procurement Division (UNPD), Paul Buads has advised Pakistan businessmen community to get themselves registered as a potential supplier of goods with the United Nation Global Marketplace (UNGM).
Speaking at a seminar on registration of Pakistani companies in UNPD organised by Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), he said that it is the policy of the UN to have as wide and diverse database of suppliers as possible, from all its member countries.
Paul Buads further stated that registration is simple and interested suppliers can register themselves via a single portal for the UN system fully online process at the UNGM. He said that the vendors need to sign up in the pre-requisites registration criteria sectors and select the level of business activity they wish to participate in that best matches their capacity, financial strength, business scope and commercial strategy.
He said that the UN does business with vendors from allover the world and has actively increased its sources of supply from developing countries and countries with economies in transition. Replying a question, he said that UN procurement activities includes air transportation services, chemicals and petroleum products, food rations and catering, prefabricated buildings, motor vehicles/parts and transpiration equipment, electronic data processing equipment and maintenance, telecommunication equipments and services, rentals and leases, architecture, engineering and construction, maintenance and repair, freight forwarding and delivery, miscellaneous, air conditioning, heating and plumbing, travel and related services, building management and maintenances, generator sets, cleaning and waste disposal, security, safety equipment and services, office equipment rentals and leasing, management services etc.
Paul Buads said that the UNDP of the United Nations Secretariat is responsible for providing quality services and expert business advice to the UN headquarters, peacekeeping missions throughout the world, and to other UN organisations. He said, "Our key goals are to provide our clients with the best value for money and to ensure the timely delivery of goods and services."
Regarding clients, he said our clients come from a range of UN headquarters department such as information and technology services division (ITSD), Facilities Management Services (FMS), Department of Field Services (DFS), peacekeeping missions, department of peacekeeping operations (DPKO) etc.
President, KCCI, Abdul Majid Haji Mohammad said that Pakistan being a developing nation and a strong ally of war on terror truly needs specialised international assistance with regards to trade and business. The country has been victimised for terror attacks for just one reasons viz., strong ally on war on terror and contributing quite significant role in it.
He said that the cost with which Pakistan is fighting this war is much high with regards top Pakistan's own resources whereas the benefits are being enjoyed allover the world especially the west. He said that the west and UN should treat Pakistan as a privilege nation in extending tirade opportunities.
