Karachi police on Tuesday revealed that Ashura day blast was the result of detonating a remote-controlled device, which claimed lives of at least 44 people, besides injuries to some 100 others.
As per details, In-Charger Investigation Committee of Sindh Police AIG Shafqat Malik on Tuesday submitted a detailed inquiry report to Inspector General of Sindh Police, Sultan Salahuddin Babar Khattak, which revealed that it was a planted bomb containing 14 to 15 kilogram high explosive material.
The report said the blast occurred due to a remote-controlled device and a number of evidences proved that it was different in nature from other bomb blasts, reported from various parts of the country.
The report further said the group behind the bomb blast was highly experienced and it might not belong to the groups of terrorists involved in subversive attacks in different parts of the country. On the other hand Federal Investigation Agency sources said the FIA has also agreed that it was not suicidal attack but a remote controlled device. They said the FIA had already submitted a detailed inquiry report on December 29 to the federal government about the nature of blast.
The sources said a few hours after the blast a senior police officer had claimed it was a suicide attack, however, the detailed inquiry proved it was a wrong claim. They said the FIA experts have sent the damaged parts of the traffic signal, water Sabeel and Rangers checkpost destroyed in the blast, besides body parts of victims to the forensic laboratory.
However, some well-placed sources in police on condition of anonymity said it was a suicide attack. Citing Nishtar Park blast, they said at that time investigation agencies had claimed that it was planted bomb but after one year it was proved that it was a suicidal attack. The sources said it is true that the head of any suicide bomber was not found, however, there were certain body parts, which were still to be identified. They said there are also strong evidence that a Rangers Jawan Abdul Razzaq had caught hold of suicide bomber and embraced martyrdom and the federal government had already announced reward for him.
