A meeting is being held between the Federal and the NWFP government to consider different concessions to be given to the people of NWFP who have been affected by terrorism. Sources told Business Recorder a meeting would be held in Peshawar today (Thursday) to discuss a special plan for the affected people of NWFP.
They said Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin, NWFP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti and other high-ups of the provincial government would attend the meeting. The plan involves provision of different concessions on agricultural loans and utility bills to the war affected people of NWFP.
When contacted, Haji Adeel of Awami National Party confirmed to Business Recorder that meeting is being held today in Peshawar to discuss special plan for rehabilitation and compensation to the affected people in the province. He said that ongoing war against terrorism has massively damage social and business life in the province and left a large number of people destitute.
The people need employment and accommodation as well as a comprehensive strategy for their rehabilitation. To accommodate the Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) coming from all the parts of tribal areas is another challenge for the provincial government, he said adding that the meeting is being held in this back ground to consider various concessions.
He deplored neither pledges committed by the Friends of Democratic Pakistan (FoDP) materialise nor majority of the Islamic countries come forwarded to support the people of the province who have been putting their lives and properties in danger for the world community.
He commended the other provinces and federal government for giving 1 percent from divisible pool to the NWFP province as compensation for war on terrorism. Adeel said that people in NWFP province have lost their jobs and businesses. He expressed the hope that the meeting would come out with a comprehensive plan for the rehabilitation and compensation of damages for war on terror.
