The Supreme Court here on Monday (today) will resume hearing of cases regarding Rs9 billion Haris Steel Mills loan and chopping of tress in the execution of multi- million rupees gas supply project in Murree.
The three-member bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Chaudhry Ejaz Ahmed and Justice Ghulam Rabbani will take up the issues.
On last hearing, counsel for Bank of Punjab (BoP) apprised that an amount of Rs7.5 billion had been recovered from the people who had earlier embezzled it.
The counsels for involved parties would apprise the bench of the result of their negotiations on certain remaining issues.
In the second case, regarding chopping of trees, the Supreme Court was apprised that government of Punjab had not conceded to execution of such project. On last hearing, the bench had directed Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited to submit a report over the issue till January 11.
According to the written report submitted by provincial government, a project of 10.27 km natural gas transmission pipeline from Lower Topa to Ratti Gali via Jhika Gali and Kaldanna and 27.7 km long distribution supply main from Ratti Gali to Nathia Gali was being executed.
The right way of the project, in which a wide strip of land would pass through valleys with 2,300 small and big trees in its way, which would be chopped down. The report further disclosed that Environmental Impact Assessment Report from the proponent was still awaited.
