Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly, Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan on Monday inaugurated Plasmapheresis centre at Jinnah Hospital. Speaking on the occasion, Khan said that Muslim Aid and Pakistan Myasthenia Welfare Organisation's Plasmapheresis project was a milestone in the health sector.
He appreciated the activities of Muslim Aid-PMWO and stressed the need to initiate such projects to provide better health facilities to the masses. Khan also gave away medals and certificates to Muslim Aid Chairman Lieutenant General Khalid Latif Moghal (Retd), Country Director Khobaib A Vahedy, PMWO founder Khalid Zia, Professor Dr Javid Akram, Muhammad Nasrullah, Muhammad Tariq, Malik Asif Hamayun and Sana-ur-Rahman in recognition to their services in health sector.
The Officials of Muslim Aid, a UK-based NGO and PMWO gave a detailed briefing about the Muslim Aid-PMWO Plasmap-heresis centre. They told that plasmapheresis was a unique project to separate blood cells from plasma and return of these blood cells to the body's circulation, diluted with fresh plasma or substitute. While addressing the function, Muslim Aid Country Director said Muslim Aid and PMWO were working together since 2003 for the betterment of ailing people.
"We can pool our financial and technical resources through such collaborations, which will give better and best results," he said. He briefed the participants an about Muslim Aid activity in various sectors in the country in general and health sector in particular.
Muslim Aid and PMWO mobile plasmapheresis project was a unique and first of its kind in South Asia, he said. This project is mobile, speedy and reliable for on spot treatment of the patients. This project includes free of cost diagnostic facility and consultation with plasmapherasis kits for deserving patients, he added.
With the support of Muslim Aid, PMWO was providing comprehensive treatment of Myasthenia Gravis patients, which include medicines, plasmapheresis and thymectomy. For this purpose Muslim Aid had provided mobile ambulances and plasmapherasis equipment to PIMS hospital Islamabad and Plasmapherasis equipment to Jinnah hospital Lahore, he added.
