A daylong seminar on human rights organised by Legal Awareness Programme for Human Rights (LAPH) funded by Trocaire, an Irish based NGO was held here on Wednesday. Chairman Board of Directors, Niaz Ali Shah briefed the participants about the aims and objectives of the seminar and achievements of the organisation.
Revealing details, he said that they are highlighting human cum women rights through arranging seminars and workshops to raise awareness among masses and working on capacity building in women through vocational training programmes. "We provide free legal assistance to helpless people especially women, and working on women protection in collaboration with district government", he added.
He said: "We have conducted two training workshops for police to sensitise them about women rights and are ready to extend support to poor females seeking education". The participants of seminar also highlighted the role and place given to women by Islam in society. Maula Nigah Niga, a retired Principal, while speaking on the occasion said that women themselves are ignoring their rights. He stressed womenfolk to claim their property rights as declared by Islam. "Women must come forward and raise voice for their rights" he added.
