District co-ordination Officer (DCO) Saeed Wahlah has directed health officials to prepare a comprehensive list of unregistered pharmaceutical companies and medical stores involved in selling spurious, expired and unwarranted medicines within a week so that a grand operation could be launched against them.
He also directed revenue officials to co-ordinate with health department in his process so that joint raiding teams comprising health and revenue officials carry out the operation. He issued these directions while addressing a meeting held here on Thursday to review steps for controlling and eliminating fake and spurious drugs.
Representatives of pharmaceutical companies, chemists and members of drug association, drug inspectors and other health officials also attended the meeting. The DCO asked the members of chemist association to extend their necessary co-operation for the success of the operation and help administration in identifying the elements involved in preparing and selling spurious drugs. He asked the EDO Health to prepare charge sheets against the negligent officials and recommend necessary action against them.
