Pakistan's parliament has recommended the president fire the top hierarchy of the country's cricket board, including team coach Intikhab Alam. Jamshed Dasti, the chairman of the lower house's standing committee on sports, made the recommendation Thursday, saying "...the top management of PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) was mentally and physically incapable of handling the affairs of the board, thus bringing cricket inside and outside Pakistan to a verge of collapse."
"The committee recommends termination of services of chairman PCB, chief operating officer, director cricket operations and coach of Pakistan cricket team." Former test wicketkeeper Wasim Bari is COO while ex-Test fast bowler Zakir Khan is the director of cricket operations.
Last week, Dasti made severe criticism of PCB chairman Ijaz Butt, saying the 71-year-old was too old, and thus incapable of doing his job. The PCB responded by saying Dasti's comments were unworthy of a member of parliament and not befitting his stature as committee chairman.
Pakistan president Ali Asif Zardari, who is also patron of the PCB, appointed Butt as board chairman in October 2008 in place of Nasim Ashraf. "I have requested for the meeting with the president as early as possible to resolve this PCB crisis," Dasti told reporters. "I am quite hopeful that the president will give our recommendations due consideration."
