Workshop on utilisation of waste agriculture biomass as source of energy held
Environment Engineering and Management, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MEUT) Jamshoro, in collaboration with United Nations Environment Programme, Osaka, organised a two-day workshop on "Consultation workshop on waste agricultural biomass utilisation as energy/ material source" here on Sunday.
Vice Chancellor, MUET, Professor Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan Rajput presided over the inaugural session of the workshop. Highlighting the objectives of the workshop he said that this workshop would concentrate on utilisation of agricultural reduced referred to as agricultural biomass, adding that billions of tons of this biomass is generated every year in the country.
Its use as fuel is considered to be very important for the developing countries like Pakistan. Meanwhile, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Muhammad Aslam Uquaili, said that the workshops like this are very important to create mass awareness among farmers, industrialists and district governments.
Dr Mushtaqque Ahmed, Programming Officer United Nations, Environment Program, Osaka, was the guest of honour at the occasion. Nazir Ahmed Shaikh, Chief Engineer Hesco addressed the audience. They said that this workshop would create awareness among farmers, industrialists and district governments. He added that by this workshop we would learn new techniques, being used in the developed world. Dr Dost Ali Khowaja, Dean Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering, MUET, also briefed the Waste Agricultural Biomass utilisation as energy /material sources.
Professor Dr Rasool Bux Marhar Chief Organiser and Co-Director addressed the aims and objectives of the workshop. The organiser of the workshop Professor Dr Khan Muhammad Brohi said vote of thanks to the representatives and organising committee.

After the inaugural session of workshop Dr Mushtaque Ahmed Memon, Program officer United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), Japan, Professor Dr Muhammad Aslam Uqaili Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Professor Rasool Bux Mahar, Co-director Institute of Environmental Engineering and Management (IEEM), presented their technical papers. A large number of represents from Industries, universities, Research laboratories, NGOs, institutions, Dean of the University, Professors, Directors, Officers and Researchers, Students and nominees of local government attended the workshop.
