Powerlooms Owners and Workers took out protest procession against prolonged load-shedding of electricity, price hike of yarn, here on Monday, on the arrival of Asif Ali Zardari in industrial city. The thousand workers and Owners of the Powerlooms Sector observed complete strike and took out protest procession carrying black flags and banners from Qadirabad, Faizabad, Ghulam Muhammadabad, Jhang Road and assembled at Chowk Clock Tower.
They burnt effigies of Textile Minister Rana Farooq Saeed Khan. Addressing the protest demonstration and sit in at front of City District Government Offices, Mirza Shafiq Ahmad, Leader of Save Power Loom Movement and Waheed Khaliq Ramay, Chairman of Council of Loom owners rejecting the capping of cotton yarn export and its monitoring procedure and have termed the cabinet committee meeting as a mere lollypop to stall time. Describing this measure as a delaying tactic to prolong the status quo they have announced to re-launch the protest movement against the exorbitant price hike and shortage of cotton yarn in local market for power loom consumers.
Meanwhile, in another demonstration, angry PPP workers tore down and snatched away the welcome banners and flags hoisted for President Asif Ali Zardari in the city. Later they burnt these banners and especially Zardari's photos as a mark of protest at University road and at front of City District Government Offices. They demanded Roti, Kapra and Makan in real sense and raised slogans for immediate arrest of real murders of Benazir Bhutto. They also raised slogns against local leadership.
