The prevailing foggy conditions in most parts of Punjab have become nuisance for the travellers and met office on Tuesday said, it will continue to disturb routine activities of people in the coming days. Talking to APP, the met official said that fog blanket will continue to cover plain areas of Punjab except Potohar region until good scattered rains occur in the province. However, there is no significant chances of rain during next one week.
The visibility usually recorded 100 meters in Punjab rise to one kilometres these days, while the on and off foggy condition will continue during the next few days. The dense fog in last two days has affected road, rail and air traffic causing serious problems for the travellers.
When contacted, the officials of Railway Ministry informed that the trains schedules has been adversely affected due to the dense fog in Upper Sindh and plain areas of Punjab. The trains complied on different routes on Tuesday reached six to seven hours late due to bad weather conditions.
Motorway official said that the travellers should plan their trips following the weather forecast, especially when they are moving with their families. The travellers drive hastily on the motorway, as everyone wants to reach their destination as early as possible, which can cause accidents and fog doubles the risk.
More than 30 people have lost their lives in fog related accidents. Salman, who travelled from Okara to Rawalpindi last night said "Normally it took five to six hours to reach Rawalpindi from my home town but fog delayed the schedule and I reached in 12 hours.
The delay disturbed my routine, as I had to join my duty at office early morning," he said. The airport authorities informed that most of the flights were delayed on Tuesday, while some flights were cancelled due to dense fog. The duration of fog in upper parts of Punjab was 16 to 18 hours and was recorded 18 to 20 hours in Southern Punjab. However, the recent isolated rains in some parts of the province have reduced the duration from 8 to 10 and 10 to 12 hours in these areas, respectively.
