Terrorism and Extremism: 'eradication possible by following teachings of holy saints'

Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that the eradication of terrorism and extremism is possible only by following the teachings of holy saints. He was addressing to Zakariya conference in Bahauddin Zakariya University here on Wednesday. Qureshi said that US Foreign Minister wanted to visit Multan but due to security reasons it could not be possible.
He said that the need is to improve the Islamic concept and only by adopting the teachings of saints, the establishment of an ideal society is possible. FM said that the attention of entire world is now focused on the war against terror and debate has broken out all over the world including the tombs of mosques, veil of Muslim women and the emotions of Muslims.
Qureshi said that the outer world believes that the education of madrassahs is producing extremism and terrorism but the reality is totally opposite. We have to increase the education budget to tackle extremism and the spread of education is included in the priorities of current government. He said that the main reason of the success of army in the war against terror is the change in public opinion. FM said that a specific group wants to misinterpret the teachings of Islam by joining it with terrorism so, that the real spirit of Islam could be spoiled.
