The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has urged Governor, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and presidents of all the banks to devise a method to provide interest free loan to the affected businessmen of December 28 incident in a letter to all the banks chiefs.
The chamber suggested that the banks should provide at least Rs 1 million to Rs 2 million interest free loan for three years to help affected businessmen to restart their businesses. Chairman of Banking and Insurance sub-committee of the chamber, Atique-ur-Rehman said that the banks' chiefs and Pakistan Banking Association (PBA) have recognized the losses suffered by the business community.
Meanwhile, the chamber has received a total of 2,753 claim forms of affected businessmen on closing date, ie, January 20, of filing claim forms till 6.00 pm. Sources said that around 40 percent of claimants filed more than one claim form with the same name. Some of the claimants have withdrawn their claim forms fearing that they might receive FBR notices of taxes.
Sources said that there were few cases where the shops were run in partnership and the claims were filed jointly by them. Scrutiny of the claim forms may take two to three more days. Sources further said that there are few cases where more than one person has filed claim form of ownership of building damaged in the incident
