Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Farzana Raja said the scope of the programme would be extended to seven million families in next three years. In addition, interest-free loan worth Rs 300,000 would be extended to more than 750 families through balloting in next 15 years.
She was addressing a press conference at the provincial headquarter of the programme on Wednesday. Farzana Raja said the BISP is the biggest programme for poverty alleviation in the South Asia helping 2.7 million families directly. She said fourth balloting of Waseela-e-Haq would be held soon to provide Rs 300,000 per head to 762 women to facilitate them on availing business opportunities.
This programme would culminate on women empowerment, she added. Further, she said, the Benazir Smart Card would be launched before March besides the accident and health insurance schemes. She said the poverty survey was underway in 15 districts of Punjab, Kashmir Baltistan and tribal areas to extend financial aid to poor ones there. She said it is for the first time poverty survey is being conducted in the South Asia.
