The parliamentary party of Pakistan Muslim League-Q in the Punjab Assembly on Wednesday slammed the policies of the Punjab government, terming them as anti-people, and announced to raise public issues, including water shortage, non-distribution of Zakat and Bait-ul-Maal to deserving people, in the current session of the Punjab Assembly.
A meeting of the PML-Q's Punjab parliamentary party was held under the chairmanship of PML senior leader and former Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi at his Gulberg residence on Wednesday. Besides the members of the PML-Q's parliamentary party, the meeting was attended among others by opposition leader Chaudhry Zaheer uddin, Kamil Ali Agha, Mohammad Basharat Raja and Ahmed Yar Hiraj.
Sources told Business Recorder that the PML-Q parliamentary party in the Punjab Assembly chalked out strategy for the current session and decided to highlight anti-people steps of the PML-N led Punjab government. Addressing the meeting, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that main objective of changes in the Punjab Local Bodies law was aimed at restricting the powers of LB representatives besides using the funds of these institutions.
Elahi maintained that people would never forgive inapt rulers for not paying any attention on issues confronted to public. "We would never allow any body to escape from local bodies elections and any attempt to delay these polls will be foiled with public support," he said. He claimed that Punjab government is afraid of local bodies' elections because they want to use funds of local bodies institutions.
The PML-Q leader further said that the government is following anti-farmers policies because neither they are getting water nor farmers are receiving fertiliser at prescribed rates. He also strongly criticised the Punjab government for not giving Zakat to deserving people for the last two years. He claimed that Zakat fund is being used for "Sasti Rooti Scheme."
He further said that proposed changes in the Local Bodies law are aimed at giving unlimited powers to chief minister besides reducing representation of women and minorities which is unacceptable, as it would increase sense of deprivation among people. Elahi further said that prosperous province has been rendered bankrupt and the provincial government had no money to even pay salaries to its employees. He said load shedding of gas and power has left devastating effects on the industry.
