Conservation and preservation of historical Khudabad Masjid has been started on the directives of Sassui Palijo, Sindh Minister for Culture. The Khudabad Masjid, built by Mian Yar Mohammad Kalhoro, first ruler of Kalhora dynasty in 18th century, was in dilapidated condition.
Though the responsibility of its preservation and maintenance was the responsibility of Federal Archaeology Department, but realising the importance of this historical monument, Sassui Palijo visited Masjid and issued instructions for its proper conservation and restoration in its original shape. A PC-I costing Rs 28.8 million has been got and so far an amount of Rs 5.7 million has been spent.
The restoration work is being carried out under the supervision of technical committee consisting of renowned archaeologists. Special size bricks and indigenous Kashi tiles have been specially prepared for use in the Masjid. In addition to restoration of Masjid, area around it is also being developed and safeguarded to check any encroachment. It may be mentioned that recently administrative control of 128 archaeological sites and historical monuments, which were declared as protected under Antiquities Act 1975 has been transferred from federal government to Sindh government.
