Central Ameer JUI-F and Chairman National Assembly Standing Committee on Kashmir Affairs, Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman has said that country needs an independent but not unleashed judiciary and Judiciary should avoid misusing its powers by taking suo motu actions which make the judiciary a complainant.
Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday he said that present regime was not different from Pervez Musharraf because it is following the same policies being carried out by Pervez Musharraf. Dictatorial forces were strengthening while democracy was weakening. He said that the main issue is security and integrity of the country and not the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).
He said that instead of the internal affair of NRO JUI gives top priority to national security. He said that they are not party in the matter of NRO and interested in the strengthening of the democratic system in the country. He said that confidence would be created amongst people in the leadership of their elected representatives.
The JUI-F Chief said that political harmony is being promoted amongst the political parties adding that opposition has right to criticise the performance of the government. But, they should maintain consensus on the continuation of the system.
He called for framing of policies for economic development and meeting the requirements of the nation. However, he said unfortunately, the resources of the country are being utilised for others. He said that wars had destroyed powerful states and mentioned the disintegration of former USSR a big example in this regard.
He said that they are democratic people and struggling for the supremacy of parliament. He said that parliament after long efforts of six months passed a unanimous resolution, but it was not implemented. Regarding the criticism of MQM about the operation in NWFP, he said that such operation is not acceptable to the former in Karachi, then why it should be accepted for the people of NWFP.
He said that they are happy over the Aghaz-e-Balochistan Rights and announcement of unanimous NFC Award. He said that they are backing peace initiative in Balochistan, but the situation in NWFP, he said would be also tackled in the same manner. Defending alliance with the ruling party, he said that they are part of the coalition government on their own arguments.
About reconciliation efforts between the government and militants, he said that it required environment, which is not available in the present circumstances. He said that they would support any step aimed at the establishment of peace, saying that they are for the peaceful resolution of the problem.
He further said that the ruling party and largest opposition party shares same stand on the important matters and political parties are coming closure to each other, which is a good thing for the strengthening of the democracy system in the country. Maulana Fazlur Rehman reiterated his stand that operation is no solution to the problems.
He called for the implementation of the unanimous resolution of the parliament for stopping the genocide of innocent people, terrorism and lawlessness in the country. He said that despite small size of members, JUI-F through joining the coalition government had foiled the conspiracy of the deleting of Islamic clauses from the constitution to convert Pakistan into a secular sate. He said that they had told the Constitutional Reforms Committee in unequivocal terms that the constitution of 1973 stands on four pillars of Islam, democracy, parliamentary form of government and federal system.
