Deputy Head of Mission, Swiss Embassy to Pakistan Nicolas Platiner has said that Swiss-Pak Business Council is playing a very significant role in boosting up the bilateral trade between Switzerland and Pakistan. Addressing the members of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) here on Wednesday he said that Business Council was helping in exchange of trade delegations and holding trade fares.
He urged the business community of Sialkot to use this forum for developing direct business relations with Swiss business community. He informed the house that Switzerland had jumped to third from fifth position as a country with foreign direct investment in Pakistan.
The Swiss government is actively considering re-privatising the technical co-operation to Pakistan and under the programme focus will be on private-public partnership, he disclosed. He said that technical support for a fast emerging economy like Pakistan was most important than any other thing.
He expressed his sympathies with the general public and business community of Pakistan over energy crisis, however he added that Swiss government was unable to support in this regard. He disclosed that in recent past we have celebrated 60 year of cordial relations between both the countries adding that with the passage of time these relations would be strengthened further.
Commenting on the visa procedure, he pointed out that he personally was not in favour of visa compulsion but it was essential and could not be avoided fulfilling obligations. In his address of welcome President SCCI, Muhammad Ishaq Butt said that Pakistan and Switzerland had been enjoying an extremely cordial relationship since 1950s and those relations could be further cemented in coming times.
The economic ties between the two countries have over the years reached remarkable level and in 1980s trade volume saw a new high record of close to 500 million Swiss Francs, he added. SCCI President was confident that in coming times both the countries would enjoy the same economically fruitful relations.
