The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) on Thursday claimed to have arrested four more accused including a sub-inspector of police involved in the biggest gold robbery in Kharadar area a few days back and recovered seven kilogrammes of stolen gold.
Addressing a press conference, SP SIU Raja Umer Khattab said the police had sent a team to Punjab on the information of two accused Mohammad Shoaib and Noman, who were arrested on January 12, 2010, for the arrest of other robbers. However, when the team reached Punjab it was informed that the mastermind of the gang Agha Nasir along with his accomplices namely Kashif Memon, Shehzad and Javed were returning to Karachi, the SP added.
The police party raided the New Punjab Bus Stand in Sohrab Goth area and succeeded in arresting Agha Nasir, Shehzad and Kashif Memon, he said, adding that after investigation they told the police that the stolen gold was in the custody of their another accomplice Abdul Sattar, sub-inspector of Kalri police station.
The police party apprehended the sub-inspector and recovered seven kilogrammes of stolen gold worth Rs 20 million from his possession, the official said. Khattab said Agha Nasir and Kashif Memon were declared 'wanted' in more than 10 cases of different nature. Further investigation was under way, he added.
