Under its comprehensive revamping programme of the distribution network, the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has added 18 more feeders and two new 40-MVA transformers to the Old Town Grid in Lyari at a cost of Rs 200 million. As many as 42 new pole mounted transformers have also been installed in the area.
With these additions, the 66-KV conventional grid has now been upgraded to 132-KV Gas Insulated System (GIS) and has been linked to the EHT System to provide better services to the area consumers. Originally, the Old Town Grid had been supplying electricity to 10 feeders emanating from a 20-MVA single power transformer.
After completion of the new GIS grid, the number of total feeders now is 28, which would greatly help reduce overloading of the existing feeder. Jamil Gul Sheikh, Director, System Engineering KESC, during the inaugural ceremony of the upgraded grid, appreciated the complete support and necessary permissions provided by Lyari Town Nazim Mehmood Hashim.-PR
