Fisheries Development Board (FDB) Friday held its 8th Board of Directors (BoD) meeting in Gwadar, wherein important decisions on implementation of Aquaculture of Shrimp Farming (ASF), were taken. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Secretary, Ministry of Livestock and Dairy Development and was chaired by the Minister of State for Minister of Livestock and Dairy Development.
Minister of Fisheries, Government of Balochistan, was also present on this occasion. The board, in its 8th meeting, approved the appointment of Dr Muhammad Hayat as Chief Executive Officer and Najeeb Ahmad as Project Director and appreciated the efforts of the new management in implementation of the project. Both the public and private sectors expressed resolve to jointly put forth efforts to developing fisheries and aquaculture, with special emphasis on the coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan.
The FDB, which is a non-profit company registered under Companies Ordinance 1984, having the representation from all four provinces and GB from both the public and private sectors, is implementing a PSDP-funded national project entitled ASF, envisaged to establishing 11 shrimp farms (8 in Balochistan and 3 in Sindh), 6 model fish markets and 5 cage farms in various dams. Work on one of the farms has already started near Jiwani, while five cage farms have been established viz Kinghar Lake, Marani Dam, Dhurabi Dam, Mangla Dam and Khanpur Dam.-PR
