Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that government is going to introduce Police Order 2010 to improve the performance of the police and law and order situation in the province. He stated this while starting the discussion in the Punjab Assembly on law and order situation in the province on Friday. In 2009, he said, 5,836 incidents of murder and kidnapping for ransom took place in the province.
He said 28 policemen lost their lives while performing their duties. He said government is introducing the Police Order 2010 after consultation with the opposition and in the light of the recommendations of the members of the provincial assembly.
During the question hour session, questions relating to the Services And General Administration were asked and a Bill on Women University Multan 2010 was also introduced. While participating in the discussion, Opposition leader Chaudhry Zaheeruddin said that rate of crime has increased because of the increasing dearness in the country and stressed upon increasing the number of police force in the province.
Minority member Kamran Michael Sahotra protested over the appointment of the officers, which were expelled from the province by the judicial commission in the Gojra incident. On this, the law minister answered that government of Punjab had already implemented the recommendation of judicial commission.
He also said that there was a role of federal government in this matter and report is also submitted to the federal government. Earlier, women parliamentarians both from the treasury and opposition benches strongly criticised the decision of Indian Premier League (IPL) for not inducting the Pakistani cricketers and termed it a conspiracy against Pakistani cricketers.
They demanded the boycott of all types of Indian cultural activities. They also demanded that government of Pakistan should register strong protest with the Indian government for not inducting the Pakistani cricketers in the IPL. The chair adjourned the session till 3pm on Monday, which will be a pre-budget session and Tuesday will be the private members day in which law and order situation will be discussed.
