Commissioner Tahir Hussain has directed all DCOs to prepare a comprehensive list of level crossings on Railways in their districts and make special arrangements on all traffic crossings for safety and security of people. He also asked them to prepare an effective plan for erecting overhead bridges, under passes and other safety measures on these level crossings so that it might be forwarded to Punjab govt for necessary funds allocation.
He issued these directions while chairing a meeting as a convenor of divisional survey and implementation committee on level crossings here on Friday. At this occasion, a comprehensive briefing with the help of charts and maps was given to the chair about the approved and unapproved level crossings on Rail network of all the 4 districts.
The commissioner directed the concerned officials to make necessary arrangements including construction of drop and down barriers, erecting 2 speed breakers on both sides of level crossings and pasting prominent guiding sign boards on them so that any untoward incident could be averted.
The meeting also decided to forward its comprehensive recommendations regarding unmanned level crossings in the division to the Punjab govt on priority basis so that it might take necessary measures for security and protection of human life. Other members of committee including RPO Muhammad Tahir, Divisional Engineer Railways Hamad Hassan Mirza, EDO Works and Services, Director Development and Finance Dr Tariq Sardar, Addl. Commissioner Shafqatullah Mushtaq were also present.
