The Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif has emphasised for elimination of corruption from jails and make the prisoners an effective part of the society. He was addressing a concluding ceremony of a three-week training course for prison officers held at Punjab Judicial Academy here on Friday.
Chief Justice said the government had increased salaries and allowances of jail staff so they should perform their duties with honestly. He pointed out that use of the drugs and weapons in jails were being highlighted by media repeatedly, adding that if the superintendents of jails were honest such evils could be ruined.
Chief Justice also expressed concerned over the presence of innocent people in jails saying that the culture of dishonesty should be abolished. Besides other judges of LHC, Director General of judicial academy former Justice Tanvir Ahmad Khan, consultant former Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Khan, Inspector General Prisons Punjab Kokab Nadeem Warraich and president LHCBA former Justice Nasira Iqbal were also present on the occasion.
The officers who attended the training course included: Ahmad Nadeem Gondal, superintendent Muzaffargarh jail, Mansoor Akbar superintendent Jhang jail, Asif Azeem additional superintendent Sahiwal jail, Imtiaz Ahmad additional superintendent Gujranwala central jail, Chaudhry Asghar Ali additional superintendent Multan central jail, Amir Umar Qureshi deputy superintendent Lahore central jail, Ms Rehana Yasmeen lady superintendent Lahore district jail, Shahzad Tanvir Butt deputy superintendent Gujranwala central jail, Farrukh Sultan deputy superintendent DG Khan central jail, Tahir Majeed deputy superintendent Lahore district jail, Sohail Safdar Khan assistant superintendent Lahore central jail, Ali Ehsan Cheema assistant superintendent Gujranwala central jail, Muhammad Nasir assistant superintendent Sahiwal central jail, Mushtaq Ahmad assistant superintendent Lahore district jail and Imam Din assistant superintendent Kasur district jail.
